On the Flatness of the World

Oh good grief! I haven’t posted on my web log for a whole month. What is this world coming to? Sometimes I don’t even know if it’s flat or not. I’ve been busy like a bee. Not a busy bee, mind you, just a standard bee, which is still fairly busy. I have 7 classes this fall, which sounds like a lot, but they only add up to 17 credits (a standard term is 15 credits), and it doesn’t feel like much work, so c’est chouette. I could tell you what the courses are, but that would be boring and it would force you to stop reading, drive to Vernon, stab me in the hand and say: “Stop writing boring stuff Mr. Bleedy Hand!”

Today was my first day in a public school as a student-teacher. It was le fun. I wasn’t anxious because it wasn’t the school where I’ll be doing my practicum. It was just one of a number of schools I’ll visit this fall for observation. Dr. Knox Middle School has 800 students in grades 7, 8 and 9. It was weird because the adolescent growth spurt begins in those years so there were some tiny kids and some ninth graders who were inches taller than me. I observed 2 social studies 9 classes (each had a different teacher), one English 9 class, and one Art 7 class. It was nice to get out of the ivory tower and get my feet wet. I felt comfortable because I think I’ll be able to do everything the teachers were doing, so that’s cool. On Saturday I have some educational conference to go to. My goal is to heckle until someone tasers me.

Rock should get back from NYC (via Ontario) soon. I know that she changed the city for the better--really, even more than Borat changed it for the better. This I know because while she was there the NYT decided to discontinue the pay version of its site. Now all their fantastically awesome journalists’ articles are free again. My life is now complete.

OK, let me get this straight, as long as I can feed my children on a flat planet, they won't taser me for reading the N.Y. times????

Hey, remember our Sedin twins in that class with Ms. Frizzle? Well, yea I saw one, don't know if it was Daniel or Henrik, and I approached, you know, being my nice self, and I said hello, and he looked at me like he didn't know who I was, probably because he didn't know who I was.

Life is rough.

I feel your pain, Dash. Those Swedes have no memory at all. Although, they probably didn't see you much in class because they would have had to turn their necks (and Swedish necks don't turn well) at 90 degrees and look through 3 people to see you. Granted, they probably heard you, but still.

Yay! Dave is blogging nonsense again! The world is in perfect balance. And yes, i did NYC better because that's what i do. Just don't ask me what i had to do to Thomas L Friedman to get the NYT fee waived.

PS- the world is triangular. Everyone knows that.
